One word Government?
A one world government without nations does not sound like a good idea to me. Overall, I feel like we shouldn’t change a system if it doesn’t need to be changed. Although there are flaws with our government today and the way things are governed, nothing will ever be perfect when it comes to government and politics. A one world government would give power and political authority to someone who would be in charge of all of humanity, rather than one nation. It is important that each nation has their own types of government because they are doing what is best for the place they are living. Issues that occur in the United States and issues that occur in China are very different. Having a one world government would require people to spread themselves to thin when it came to address all the situations at once. In addition, there would have to be a way Having a uniform type of government for such a large population would not be able to meet everyone’s needs. In addition, you will not be able to see what is happening everywhere. Many nations and countries struggle now to know what is going on, if someone is responsible for everyone it is a huge responsibility to do so. The way the nations run now works in its own way. To make sure there are precautions in place for all these nations we have the United Nations which has delegates to represent each nation. Overall, I don’t think the use of a one world government sounds like a good idea to me.
Language or Religion?
Both language and religion have important roles in culture. A culture represents someone’s ideas, values, and beliefs. I think someone’s religion is the most important aspect of their cultures. Language is something that can be learned while religion is something that people truly belief. Your religion often times guides you through life, inspires you, and shapes who you are as a person. Sharing religious beliefs connects you with people on a different level. It allows you to share similar beliefs on a spiritual level. Religion influences greatly who we are as people. It influences the way we dress, eat, and our social practices. Certain religions require you to dress a certain way, restricts you from eating certain foods, and influences your daily activity. Some are mores strict than others when it comes to daily practices. Personally, I am Italian we follow the catholic faith. Religion is something that is taken very seriously, and you are expected to be baptized, receive communion and confirmation, and be married in a church. Family in the Italian culture is something that is very important and going to church and attending mass is something done as a family. That is more important than being able to speak the language. Being able to speak a language is a part of life and helps you communicate it with others, but that doesn’t define who you are as a person. As stated, both religion and language are very important to culture. Culture makes us the person we are today.
Population
Currently on planet earth there are 7.53 billion people living on planet earth, the population is increasing every day. Personally, I think now we are living very comfortably on planet earth. I think that maybe 2-3 more billion people could live on planet earth. If we overpopulate it can cause us to run out of resources and for us to increase our global warming foot print. In addition, when there are more people we need more space this forces us to expand into forests and other spaces of nature and that can affect the lives of animals. Taking away their homes can cause them to go extinct. Animals are needed in the environment as not only a source of food but to help maintain ecosystems. There are certain areas that are over crowed but there are some that are underpopulated. Certain areas including parts of China, Russia, and India are extremely over populated. When thinking about population we need to think about what is needed for survival and if we will have enough of it if the population continues to grow. Not only do we need to think about the resources needed for many people we need to think about the impact. Human interactions can have a very harmful effect on the environment. With more people comes more pollution leaving us with uncomfortable living conditions. It is important that we aware of what can happen if we become over populated, and the affects it can have on earth, our environment and our resources.
Would You Rather?
Natural disasters are something that cause significant damage to many different areas. Both hurricanes and earthquakes have instilled fear in many over the years. Hurricanes are large rotating storms. They have very high winds with low pressure located at the center. Earthquakes is the shaking of the earth’s surface due to the release of seismic waves. When it comes to deciding where to live thinking about these natural disasters is very important. Personally, I would rather live in areas where hurricanes occur. With Hurricanes there is warning about when they are coming. They are able to track the storm and determine the damage it will cause. With this warning it gives you time to evacuate. Not always will you have a sufficient amount of time, but you will be able to at least create a plan and get yourself to safety. The damage hurricanes cause is very destructive but as long as I am safe and alive I am not so worried about my home. I would rather a hurricane because earthquakes are unpredictable. You don’t know when they are coming or the aftershocks they can bring along with them. Buildings are very likely to be damaged because it is happening when the plates shift which causes more structural damage from the bottom up. With this comes buildings cracking or breaking at the base of them, bridges collapsing, and streets cracking. This structural damage is very hard to replace. Yes, the damage from hurricanes is horrible and sometimes worse than earthquakes but living in an area with either one creates much risk.
Map viewpoint
Maps are something that can be read in a variety of ways. They are used for not only directions but can be used by people to get different information. That can be average votes, different ethnicities or average income of certain places. Many maps have been created in a variety of ways. On maps there are different things included. Most commonly there are lines of longitude and latitude, a legend, a scale, and a title. All of these are key components to a map. The Peters Map put countries back to their equal proportions. This rectangular map made the area correct sizes relative to each other. Issues with this include the shape of the map and how it is stretched out. When looking at this map you see that certain places are the same size but are not in real life. In comparison when looking at the MacArthur’s map it places Australia at the top, this is a completely different view point compared to how we usually see maps. It is interesting to see the United States is above Canada which is not usually how we view the map. This map is highly recognized in Europe and is seen as a bias. They like to view it this way because they feel like being on top is superior. When looking at both of these maps you are able to see things from a different viewpoint. It allowed me to look at things in a different way and not just the basic maps that we are used to seeing everyday.
My Geography Knowledge
Prior to this class I have learned little about geography. Although this class is a requirement for me after reading the first chapter I was happy to learn that we won’t just be taking map quizzes and being tested on different countries. Most of my class just had us memorize different maps and learn the states and their capitals. Personally, I thought this way of learning was very boring and challenging. The Geography we will be learning about in this class seems a lot more meaningful than what I have learned in the past. I feel like this class will teach us more about why things are the way they are in a geographical context. Even just from the first reading I was able to understand that geography more than just places on a map. Its the differences between these places, how they got there, there environment, and the culture that goes with it. I think learning the importance behind geography is something that is very insightful. I think the most important thing is understanding both the physical and cultural events and how they are different in different places. Once we being to understand this we can also gain more of an understanding on different issues that arise both nationally and internationally. You are able to see the relationships between geography and the current events that our happening in our society. I am really excited to take this class and get a new insight on geography. I think this way of learning will have more of an impact than in previous classes.

My First Blog Post
Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

This is the first post on my new blog. I’m just getting this new blog going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.
Introduce Yourself (Example Post)
This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.
You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.
Why do this?
- Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
- Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.
The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.
To help you get started, here are a few questions:
- Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
- What topics do you think you’ll write about?
- Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
- If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?
You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.
Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.
When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
